I am a Swiss artist who lives and works in Zurich. At the end of April I am invited to participate in a group show in San Francisco. Entitled "Knowing You, Knowing Me", this exhibition features artists from the San Francisco Bay Area, Italy and Switzerland and it is a very interesting project about identity and dialogue. For my project in this exhibition, I would like to fulfill a deep wish. I never in my life met a person with the same name and I am interested in getting in touch with other Bessie's. By searching the Internet and the white and yellow pages I found you. I would like to ask you a favor: would you be so kind to send me a picture of you, as soon as possible? The size or if it's color or black/white doesn't matter, it could be even a copy. You can send this photo via mail or the Internet. I would like to create an installation on a special homepage: http://www.bessie.ch (later, there will be also a chat room), with all the pictures that have been sent to me and pictures found on the Internet, like Bessie Smith, Bessie Coleman, Bessie Harvey, etc. If you have questions or remarks, don't hesitate to contact me. The opening for this exhibition will be the 28th of April at The LAB, an alternative art space, located at 2948 16th St.in San Francisco. Everyone is invited to come.
