Wains Wonders - GW30 - The business end

23 March 2015

What a weekend it was. It started off on Friday night with my birthday celebrations when my friends somehow convinced the nightclub DJ to wish me Happy Birthday and at the same time congratulate me on currently being 13th in the world. It was pretty surreal and I was half expecting the paparazzi to be waiting outside the club to capture my ‘drunken’ departure. Needless to say there were no cameras or autograph hunters and I stumbled on home, wondering whether fantasy football had any birthday surprises in store…

The 12:45 kick off delivered the first as Myhill, away at the Etihad and despite playing most the game with 10 men, returned 5 points after making a monstrous 13 saves. Kane (C) then smashed in a hat-trick, punishing all the Aguero captainers who must have been watching the Tottenham game from behind their sofa, and then Southampton managed to keep a clean sheet, making my Bellerin to Alderweireld transfer a huge success. To cap it off on Sunday, Hazard slotted one home and a man who I have probably kept too long, Charlie Austin, put the icing on the cake with a scrappy assist against Everton.

The only blips on a perfect weekend were the continued dips in form of Sanchez and Aguero and what looks like a one match ban for Dawson after another case of mistaken identity by a referee. Giroud, with two goals against Newcastle, continues to be the man that I regret not owning but with a DGW for Austin in GW 31 and a blank for Giroud in GW 33, I can’t really justify the use of my transfers to bring him in.

Looking at the overall league table, I have finally cracked the top 10! After scoring 89 points, Wain’s Wonders moved up 5 places to 8th position to achieve the much sought after single figure rank. It’s incredibly close up top, with only 11 points separating 4th and 12th, but the lead to number 1, although I reduced it by a further 2 points, is still a whopping 38 points away.

Moving onto the game week ahead, I cannot stress loud enough the importance of not making any early transfers. It can be hard to resist sometimes, especially with players such as Mata and Aguero changing in price quite quickly, but the next Premier League matches are not for a fortnight and most players will be away representing their countries. This break gives plenty of time for injuries to accrue and more information to be gathered, for example Costa may have tweaked his hamstring making him a doubt for the Stoke clash, Forster may be set for a spell on the sidelines and Dawson may receive a one match ban.

Next game week is also a DGW, albeit not the most exciting one to date. I will be keeping Austin for WBA and Villa away but doubt I will be acquiring any more DGW assets as they will need removing by GW 33. Transfer wise I have 2 free transfers and bearing in mind the blanks in GW 33, I may look to move on my final Arsenal player, Sanchez, or make a bold transfer regarding Aguero. Captaincy will be a tough decision to make; Austin has the two fixtures but two form players, Kane and Hazard, have Burnley and Stoke respectively.

More on my plans for GW 31 will be announced on Twitter @jawain04 and between now and then I will be happy discuss any transfer/selection decisions you may have right here on Fantasy Football Fix. Just comment below!
