Extended Essay Rules - BE SURE TO READ THESE before starting a thread!
1. Just to make it clear - we will not give you a topic for your EE, but we will help you refine and expand on your original ideas for a topic. You are marked on your choice of topic so we can't help you with that.
2. Before doing anything, read the Extended Essay for Dummies thread. At the very least, we recommend you take a look at the 5 Cardinal Rules of the EE!
3. Before asking anything about format or requirements for the extended essay, we suggest you read the IB Extended Essay Guide first (which you can download from here).
4. Make your thread titles descriptive. At the minimum, mention the subject area and if you have one, the topic! For instance "History EE on Nazi Propaganda" is better than "EE help please". The people who know about history and nazi propaganda will click on the first thread and probably miss the second one. Help us to help you - give it an accurate title!

The word limit for the EE is 4000 words. If you go over this limit you lose marks. There is no minimum but for most subjects, you should expect to go above 3500 words. For experiment based subjects like sciences or math you can go as low as 2500 if there is sufficient formulae working (math) or data (sciences) or other things not included in the word count but suffices to show that you've done work on the essay. The word limit for the Abstract is separate and is 300 words. The following are not included in the word count: footnotes, appendices, abstract. Its hilarious to think of a site that is considering helping future students when their time is so limited especially on an IB basis. Hi I am designing my bio EE on the effect of varying seeding densities of a cereal crop on its productivity/yield in a white clover living mulch system (which can help improve soil health and fix nitrogen). The goal is to see what the optimal seeding density for maximum benefits of the living mulch system on crop productivity. -Is this topic decent or is it overkill to have 2 independent variables?? I have to change my topic as I realised my school doesn't offer the equipment I need. This is my new research question: How does the intensity of radio waves signal vary with distance and electromagnetic shielding detected by a transistor radio? I have a transistor radio but I'm not sure how I will conduct the experiment yet. Will this be a good EE research question and something I can experiment on?

Hi, so today we were given the talk about the EE and I have decided to do my EE in English. (I take English Literature & Language) I know that I have to choose a topic within the subject that interests me which is worth writing 4,000 words about. Hey, I do EE in biology, my research question is: How reliable is HbA1c as a long-term glycemic control marker in individuals with diabetes? and research topic is: Haemoglobin A1c Levels as a Biomarker for Long-Term Blood Sugar Control in Diabetes. I actually wanted to change my topic&question, because I can't conduct a premary research and as i know these essays usually don't get A or B. I'm currently doing a biology EE with the research question: To what extent could stem cell therapy be used in repairing brain damage as a result of neurodegenerative components as seen in progressive diseases such as Alzheimer's? I don't really have any intentions of changing my topic or shifting to a primary research topic, but I was just wondering since I've heard around that secondary research EE's never do so well for science EE's. Hi! I've started thinking about my EE- I know I want to do english, but I also know that I want to be a bit different and focus on children's novels. For example, the Tale of Despereuax: I really want to do this novel- but I can't find any secondary sources (like real essays already written on it). Hiii, I am going to start working on my ee starting this semester (probably in a couple of weeks) and I know I can't use a book we've studied or are going to study/analyze in class, but I was wondering if I can use a book that is a retelling, readaptation by a different author, or inspired from a classic novel. I have a few books that I want to read/do my extended essay on, but I haven't made my mind up yet because of this question. Appreciate the help!

Hello everyone, I am almost done with my EE, but the problem is that my EE is purely theoretical, hence I don't know what kind of errors to put in my evaluation. I just finished Q1 in the first IB year and I am stuck at deciding my RQ for the EE. Is this a good one or is there anything to improve or add: "To what extent has Nike's endorsement of athletes and celebrities contributed to its global brand recognition and market shares. I want to write my extended essay about coffee. My first idea was to research how the 2021 frost in Brazil affected the local coffee roasteries but to do that I needed financial reports that they didn't want to give I understand, because of confidentiality, but I could find these financial reports in a government database but to access them it costs a lot of money, so maybe anyone has some advice or a different idea of what I could research about coffee in Latvia?
