MEDIUM: Transparent Watercolor on Arches paper. Transparent watercolor was coined by the guild organized in England to set the rules for the ‘fine art of watercolor’ in the early 1800s. To maintain the transparency of the pigments, it was suggested that the color be laid down in very thin delicate washes, one over the other, but always allowing the previous passage to dry ‘hard.’ There was to be no mixing of colors on the palette or the paper. Neither black nor white was allowed because they are opaque colors. All work is done on Arches 300 or 140-pound paper.

GENRE: Nature of the eastern U.S., with a special emphasis on the Everglades region of southern Florida. It was the intent of the artist to take the viewer into the world of wildlife by bringing the viewer down to the level of the wildlife subject.

Bill Scott - Artist

Nature and wildlife are the prime focus for the art of Bill Scott, and, to that end, many hours were spent observing and sketching in preparation for a painting.

"I have an obligation to present animal life in a fashion that will generate interest for the viewer, to the extent that the casual observer will become more concerned with preserving wildlife and its habitats rather than sacrificing them. Art is the best vehicle to introduce the public to wild elements they would not otherwise have access to. I attempt to take the viewer into this environment with my paintings, opening a visual dialogue between these two diverse worlds."

Scott considered himself a contemporary realist looking for that play of light or composition that sparks an interest from the viewer.
