Introduction

If you want to make the most of your digital marketing budget and ensure your business gets in front of as many eyes as possible, you can't do without an SEO strategy. Search Engine Optimization, often shortened to SEO, involves tailoring your website and its content rank highly for certain terms on Google or other search engines. Since the average user won't look past the first page of Google search results, getting on that front page can be key to earning new business!

But you can't get started building your SEO strategy if you don't know where you're starting from. You might already be ranking for certain keywords, or you might be wondering how your biggest competitors are doing. Semalt's Keywords in TOP feature can help you see where you're ranking and how your business is trending on search engines.

What is Semalt?

Semalt offers a wide range of SEO services to help our global clients craft effective websites that translate to larger audiences and increased conversions.

Our main offering is our Dedicated SEO Dashboard, but we also offer many other digital marketing services revolving around SERP, content, SEO audits, and a report center. Every tool we offer is designed to help you improve your website in terms of both user experience and creator satisfaction.

What is the Keywords in TOP Feature?

Semalt's Keywords in TOP feature is designed to show you how many keywords your website is currently ranking for in search engines like Google. The tool will display SEO keywords that you're ranking for in the top 100 search results and can even show your trends over time.

When you first enter the Keywords in TOP feature, you'll be asked to enter the domain of your website and select a search engine if you prefer. If you opt not to select a search engine, the default setting will analyze your website for results on Google's international platform. You can also choose whether or not to include subdomains.

Once you've entered your domain, you'll be shown a line graph tracking the number of keywords you have in TOP. You can opt for the default scale or track your trends by the month, week, and day. Each line's color corresponds to the specific ranking, whether that be the Top 1, 3, 10, 30, 50, or 100. You can also hover over the lines for an exact breakdown of how many keywords your site ranked for on that specific day. Below you can see the ranking results for Semalt.net at the time of writing.

If you continue to scroll down the page, you'll find even more handy features about your SEO rankings. You can view your keywords distribution by TOP, showing you exactly how many keywords you ranked for in the Top 1, 3, 10, etc. You'll also find your rankings by keywords, so you can see precisely which keywords users are searching for and seeing your website. Search for a certain keyword to see how you're doing for that search term, or sift your keywords by dynamics to see if there has been any movement for your rankings.

Why Track Your Top Keywords?

All of these tools might seem cool, but why should you even track your keywords in the first place? SEO keywords are your key (pun intended) to finding new audiences. Let's say your company sells jewelry. You'll want to rank highly for relevant keywords such as "women's bracelets," "affordable jewelry," and "silver earrings," for instance.

If you can get your website to pop up on the first page of search results for any of these terms, you'll have a much better chance of bringing in new audiences. After all, the average web user won't look past the first five results, and more than a quarter of users click on the first result! If you can get ranked above your competitors, you've got an automatic advantage.

More SEO Tools from Semalt

The Keywords in the Top feature is an incredibly handy tool to get an idea of how your website is currently performing in SEO. However, it's definitely not the only way you can use Semalt to improve your overall SEO strategy.

You can utilize our Best Pages tool to see which specific pages on your website are ranking the highest. If you have 3 pages ranking in the Top 3 or 50 pages ranking in the Top 30, this is the place to find out about it! If you want to know more about your competitors, there's even a dedicated Competitors page where you can search for other businesses, see which shared keywords you're both ranking for, and see changes in your respective rankings.

Semalt also offers unique analyzers and insights to help you take your website to the next level. Semalt Insights provide you with up-to-date data on SERP changes, so you'll always know the most relevant trends. Check your Page Uniqueness or Website Uniqueness to make sure your content is one-of-a-kind, verify your Page Speed to make sure things are loading quickly for your users, or analyze a webpage to get specific tips on how to improve.
