ADS vs SELFPR

Hi everybody,

Im gonna ask you a small but important question for me about promotion. What do you do for promoting your channel?
Because, I recently spoke with my friend, He has joined a SEO marketer and internet PR where he basically learnt that ADS is the final and best way to promote any kind of business online and offline.

He said:
- Self promotion: you have to spend a lot of time and struggling very much in achieving fews views and subs.
- Ads: is the only way to find new targeted visitors.

So, are you agree?

This may depend on the type of your channel but I found content to be the best way to grow a channel - it was/is for me atleast. I have never used ads and never really did any serious self-promotion and fortunately, my channel is doing good. Sure, cover songs are a highly searched type of content but then again, a lot of people are doing so still, you have to stand out (although this applies to pretty much every kind of channel).

Guys You're right... Peter I saw your channel but basically you do tutorial videos and cover. This means original content for youtube but not as artist which produce original new content. (But for my you are an artist!!)

In case of music and movies, first of all there the offline promotion plus online promotion focused on new users.
Ads is probably one of the best way.

Peter how did you got a good channel like yours and how long does your channel has?

Yeah, well cover songs are an excellent way to get your name out there. As for original content, I have been experimenting with composing my own tunes for a little while and I will (hopefully) release my first EP this summer. :) My channel is about 2.5 years old (first video was uploaded in September, 2012) and as I mentioned above I don't really know what made me grow, I just always aimed to make better videos (both playing and quality wise). :)

very good, yes cover songs are probably the better way...
PR Marketer keep suggesting ADS.
Does anyone has tried to ads his channel?

I haven't tried using ads yet, @Khappa. I haven't seen/read anything that says that using paid ads is incredible successful l. If it were that simple, a lot of people would just shell out the money in exchange for growing their channel.

I do agree with @Peter, because at the end of the day, your content has to be great in order to continue growing and have subscribers stick around. While music covers are really searched often, Peter has done a great job of constantly improving and producing awesome music! :D

ya ya ya that-s right Merc. Of course we have to create great content, brand, plus many other common roles in the marketing and communication.
But once we do that we have also to promote that content to a wider audience.

In case of a movie creator for example or music videos, unles you wanna create home made videos, it requires lot of time and money creating a good professional video, that-s why its impossibile to create videos weekly.

This is probably the main reason why my friend told me to use advertising system and otherr guys tolde insetad to create videoblogs and simple video covers... *but ther-a a movie in progress For FIRTS :) )

Ads is a big nono in YT-world. I have only heard experiences with people putting money in Adwords and get little views and almost no subs. You really have to know what youre doing before spending money on ads. And if your content is just meh, the new found audience won't stick with you long. Or if you have the money you don't mind throwing away.

Self promoting is like grinding, and if you want to become big this is not the way to do it. You spend a lot of time and gaining marginal viewers and subs. This is free however.

I hope I've answered your questions
