Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Movie

There's a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes ahead of us, it's official! The first film made a hefty profit: it grossed $481 million for a $93 million production budget. So one can understand why 20th Century Fox is eager to develop Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2. They actually have already set a release date: May 23, 2014. The official title of the sequel is Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Director Rupert Wyatt, who helmed the first film, will return. So does Actor Serkis who played the role of the genius ape Caesar (they used motion capture).

The plot hasn't been revealed yet. But back in August 2011, when asked about potential ideas for the sequel, here's what Rupert Wyatt said about where the franchise might be headed:

"You could start this story again eight years from where we left off, the next generation of apes, those that have come from our protagonists, perhaps going in to a conflict with humans and showing real fear, in the same way as going into war for young soldiers in this day and age, telling their story. Or how apes are taking over cities, and being moved into human environments and having to interact with them and deal with things that are part of our culture and understand and evolve through them. Spies that are in the employ of the apes, working against humans and humans maybe existing underground, because that’s a way they can avoid the virus, coming up above ground wearing gas masks, and maybe that’s what dehumanises them."

Update: there's now a plot synopsis:

Plot:
“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes continues the story of how ultra-intelligent simian Caesar (Andy Serkis) presides over the fall of human civilization. After the apes break out of their facility, a virus breaks out that causes the collapse of human society. The new project is taking the story to the next level, with the apes on the path to emerge as society's new rulers."
