    • Maxx, there are literally TONS of instructions on how to install FSX on this board. Mr. Zippy and myself have written our fair share of them, and they work.   If you can't find any of them, drop a note here, and I'll see if I can write one up again.   But a very easy and foolproof way to install a fully updated FSX is to get the Steam versiom - FSX:SE, which basically is FSX Acceleration with bugfixes already applied.   Jorgen
    • You'd have got a quicker answer had you posted on the HJG forum .... where you've apparently obtained these files 🙂   That's where the expertise associated with the file version you're apparently accessed is located.   Only seen this posting now ....  stumbled upon it by accident.   Can verify there's nothing wrong with the any of the HJG supplied TRIDENT files.   All TRIDENT files (in fact all HJG supplied DMFS files) are FSX portable.   Basic FSX installation procedure/s are as follows ....     "IF" addition help's required then register and post on the HJG forum and your query will be picked quite promptly there.   Understand please it's not really practical for HJG to post support on forums other than its own  .... workloads behind the scenes prevent representatives from being in 2 places at once 😉   MRC
    • The advice I got when I started is still valid.  Go slow. Don't be like a kid in a candy store...the menus are difference the GUI is different....start simple otherwise like every sim one can be frustrated.  There can and is tons to learn.  Once you have become familiar with the planes, how to get to a particular airport, and starting point using the location map, tried real weather and much more, then move on to what might be the add-ons that would enhance the sim....just go on utube and ask that question, what are the 10 best addons, freeware available for X plane and there are some great ones, then move on to ortho scenery, which will totally blow your mind, there are tons of already available sources in this regard.    Then look at payware, things like FS Realistic will take your sim to a whole new level, there is a version for MSFS2020 but the XP version gives you more control especially head latency.   I have both sims and use both for different reasons.  By far right now Xplane has much better forests and trees by default in XP12.  Also the flight sim dynamics are way more realistic in XP12 than in MSFS.  MSFS shines in terms of its whole of ortho scenery (except in some circumstances).  Every time I fly in MSFS and then fire up XP12+ I so like the feel better.
    • Hello all, On my TCA Boeing Throttle Quadrant outer rotory knob I have IAS/MACH mapped to SELECT AIRSPEED BUG and the HDG/TRK to SLECT HEADING BUG and the ALTITUDE to SELECT ALTITUDE BUG.  Then on the inner rotory knob I have it setup when turning it right, it's mapped to PLUS and to the left, it's mapped as MINUS.    Using this setup works great with the PMDG 737.  I can turn the knob to the IAS/MACH and change the speed using the inner knob to plus or minus, then change to HDG/TRK and do the same for the heading change and so on with the ALTITUDE knob, ect..    This setup does not work with the E190.  For the E190, instead of using PLUS or MINUS for mapping the inner rotory knob, I did try mapping INCREASE AUTOPILOT REFERECE AIRSPEED and DECREASE AUTOPILOT REFERENCE SPEED to the IAS/MACH outer knob and INCREASE HEADING and DECREASE HEADING BUG for the HDG/TRK and INCREASE AUTOPILOT REFERENCE ALTITUDE and DECREASE AUTOPILOT REFERENCE ALTUTIDE to the ALTITUDE knob. This did get the numbers in speed, hdg, and alt, but all at the same time. When I would turn the outer knob to the IAS/MACH the speed numbers, altitude numbers and heading numbers would change at the same time so I can't change the seperately.  I don't know if something else has to be mapped for IAS/MAC, HDG/TRK, ect. in order for it to work seperately or if the setup that works for the PMDG 737 and other aircraft is correct and there is a bug in the FSS EJet. trying to map thesse controls.   Does anyone have the FSS EJets with the TCA Boieng Throttle Quadrant and the IAS/MACH, HDG/TRK, Ect. working correctly? If so can anyone provide me the proper mapping of these controls.   Thanks you all very much
    • Mine had a spring that you clipped to a prop blade. It would get you almost every time unless you were quick. Then the fuel would make the plastic slippery so you didn't have a chance.
    • I had an old model airplane with a Cox .049 gas engine that needed a string to start it.  Got my finger whacked a couple of times flipping the prop by hand!
    • Hi. I do not want to confuse you.   What Nels stated, about what is best for the future: >If you're going to do this, the only choice is the latest version as that's what the developer and community are supporting.<<   My input is about the present, and somewhat disappointed with the approach that LR is taking. It would appear that GA in Not something they are very interested in, and they do not  understand that if any user cannot see the controls it renders the model useless. There are other issues with thC172 / GA acft., but this is is a show stopper for most users.   The process, to select what works  for you, is relatively simple. I would Download both  Demos, they can coexist on the same Drive / PC without interference, and try them. If you can get past the Dark cockpit, and can get above 30FPS, in the default mode, XP12 would be my choice. They are around 25GB each, if I remember correctly. To test for the Cockpit knobs view ability select a Rwy the points into the low Sun, Rise or Set and go inside the cpit. I run 4K, at 90FOV, you may want to use something else? Post here for more details / info. It will likely default to 1080P, you need to make sure that you select the resolution you need, anything other than 4K has AA problems, slightly improve in 12.10b1 but still an issue.   That said that is only the start of your adventure, if you are like most RW pilots you will likely not like the lack of Ground references, Scenery (Limited / low visibility, hazy even when set to 100SM), C172SP: Ground handling with Xwind,  Turbulence exaggeration, exaggerated windshield reflections, horrible GPS dirty screens, Prop disc unrealistic, Flight model / dynamics, especially behind the Power curve...
    • If you want to give MSFS a try, you can sign up for the Xbox PC Game Pass trial for $1 for 14 days. This will give you access to the base edition of the sim. If you decide to go with MSFS, you can cancel the subscription and buy the sim outright.   https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/game-pass/CFQ7TTC0KGQ8?rpid=9NLV3X229LG1   Note that while there is a boxed edition of MSFS, it doesn't remove the need for an online connection and will still require you to download every update since the discs were printed. Best to stick to the MS Store or Steam online stores.
    • Sorry, my apologies! Somehow hit reply to the wrong thread.
    • Meanwhile, our group of Veterans are back having "done" Thiepval, Beaumont-Hamel and the Ulster Tower.(The Ulster Tower make the best tea in Continental Europe, really recommended) So we too can return to "Blighty". Charlotte Allen, 5 feet nothing, with the look of Marilyn Monroe but with a fringe, guides our passengers gently back to their seats and we can get airborne again.   As we climb into what was a clear blue sky, the weather starts to change   We try to climb over the cloud aware that there is a cold front somewhere out there...   Then as we start to think about alternatives, there is Le Touquet, sighs of relief all round.   Being as Sean Beckett did the take off, I get to do the landing Not quite on the centre line but close. Mind you there is always someone (critical) watching!   Everybody off. Again, we are here to clear customs.  The Veterans moan about Brexit, with some very old Anglo-Saxon words being used. Charlotte (Charlie to her friends) doesn't turn a hair. And again, the French Customs are their usual efficient selves.
    • Hi loki, thanks but I'm afraid you may have misread my messages. It's X-Plane what I'm wondering about, As for MSFS 2020, I've been using it since minute 0 😅

    • I stand corrected, the Nardi 333 is available for MSFS
    • Hi Nels, this is probably the only question I'm still unclear about. Latest version is X-P12, but as flytv1 said, this one seems to be still in beta phase (much like MSFS 2020 for a couple years), and you can't compare the myriad of available add-ons for X-P11 to the relatively few XP12 community contributions so far. It's a situation I'm familiar with, in the racing car simulation community. Both XP versions are available from Steam, but X-P11 is today much cheaper (obviously). Anyhow, thanks to both for your advice. Reflection period starting... ⏲️
